Characterization and Antimicrobial Profiling of Ethanol-Toluene Extract of Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth Pod

The research reports the characterization and antimicrobial profiling of an ethanol-toluene extract Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth pod. sample was powdered extracted with a solvent system (2:1). characterized Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy Gas Chromatographic-Mass Spectrometric (GC-MS) analysis, as well wet analysis investigation. qualitative quantitative reveals presence flavonoids (0.307), phenols (0.4545), alkaloids (1.7165), tannins (6.118), saponins (5.700), glycosides (0.2375). FTIR revealed 1723cm-1, which assigned to carbonyl groups, peaks within range 3416.10–3777.54cm-1 were attributed hydroxyl groups. GC-MS 34 molecules in chromatogram, is consistent mass spectra. contains 19 guaiacyl its derivatives, 15 syringyl derivatives. molecule, propenylsyringol (cis)b has highest yield based on height peak. Other lignin-derived good percentage extraction vanillin, syringaldehyde synapylalcohol (cis). tested nine pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus bacilli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Candida species, Aspergillus Niger, Penicillium spp., Fusarium fumigates). result therefore that PMBP more effective S. pyogenes (0.9mm), P. bacilli (0.5 mm), spp. (0.9mm) at MIC 6.25mg/mL. standard agents, Focknazol (antifungal) Ciprotab (antibacterial), have zone inhibition 6.25mg/mL, when compared pod can be used source or derivatives also clinically since it sensitive some pathogens.
